BCPED Holds Summer Workshop on the Integration of Peace Concepts in the Teaching of Basic and Tertiary Education


The Bicol Consortium for Peace Education and Development (BCPED) on June 2-4, 2011 held the Summer workshop on the integration of Peace Education in the tertiary and basic education curriculum.  The activity was in response to the need for further development and integration of Peace in the basic education curriculum and in particular in the teaching of professional, social sciences and the basic curriculum.  The activity was held at the LAL Hall in Legazpi City.  The participants were the teachers from San Isidro Elementary School, the member HEIs of the BCPED and other institutions of higher learning in Bicol.  Topics such as the Nature of Conflict (Dr. Herbert B. Rosana), Teaching Strategies (Dr. Efren M. Gaveria), Environment (Ruby Mendones), Human Rights (Dr. Rosemary T. Frias), Conflict Resolution (Prof. Serafin Arviola), Teaching Demonstrations (Rowena Encinas and Prof. Marcia P. Rico) were discussed by various resource person.  It is expected that the key instructors and teachers were given orientation on the topic which will serve as the seed in the promotion of peace education.
