PMA and BU Embark on a Pilot Faculty Exchange Program

The Philippine Military Academy and Bicol University has embarked on a Pilot Faculty Exchange program.  The Aim of this program is to establish academic and professional linkages through: (1) SME Lectures, (2) Seminar Workshops, (3) Community Extension Activities, (4) Research Colloquia.  Moreover it is also the aim of this program to enhance teaching strategies and strategies in various disciplines; enrich instructional and training materials resources and promote academic and professional competencies of faculty members.  The FEP Team from the Philippine Military Academy includes CPT Agnes Lynette A Flores PROF, CPT Eddie R Balunso PROF, Ms. Bernadette P. Escobar CI, Mr. Jose C. De La Cruz CI, Ms. Gepsy Rose M. Ano CI.  The Bicol University Team includes, Dr. Dolores D. Laguilles, Dr. Herbert B. Rosana, Prof. Gelnton O. Guiriba, and Prof. Katherine E. Evasco.  Last August 26, 2011 the PMA Team visited Bicol University and held their visiting lectures at the Arcilla Hall, BU-CSSP.

BCPED Field Visit to Pilot School of Peace in Castilla, Sorsogon

The Education Committee of the Bicol Consortium for Peace Education and Development (BCPED) conducted a field visit to San Isidro Elementary School on August 23, 2011.  This activity was part of the efforts of the BCPED to monitor and strengthen its peace education advocacy in the Bicol Region.  The BCPED team included Dr. Herbert B. Rosana, the director of the Consortium Secretariat, Dr. Jeane Paulette Salalima, of the Commission on Higher Education, Dr. Noemi L. Ibo, the Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy of BU and Dr. Ruby Ann Ayo. 

The BCPED Team was met by the School Principal Mr. Teddy Janola and the 13 teachers of the San Isidro Elementary School.  San Isidro is a small village in Castilla, Sorsogon.  This areas were considered conflicted areas in the past due to heightened activity of insurgency, especially during the later part of the 90s.  However, as peace is being restored there is the felt need to conduct peace building activities.  These peace building activitie.  The team arrived in San Isidro around 10:00 a.m. in the morning and a short program ensued.  The principal welcomed the team, while the various members of the stakeholders were given the chance to express their opinions and impressions regarding the school of peace.  The stakeholders included the Teacher Organization, the Barangay Officials, and the representative from the Mayor's office.  Even the pupils were also represented by their officers. 

The objectives of the visit are the following:

1.  Provide an avenue for the San Isidro Elementary School stakeholders to interact with the      consortium members;

2.  To serve as an opportunity for the teachers of San Isidro Elementary School to perform demonstration teachings using their lesson plan exemplars in peace education;

3.     To help seek external support for the school of peace project from the member agencies of the BCPED; and

4.      To provide a follow up for the qualitative assessment activity conducted after the workshop of July 29-31, 2011 that will contribute to the on-going documentation of the school of peace project.

MAPSS Student is one of this year's Police Awardee

The Department of Peace Studies, of BU-CSSP congratulates Police Chief Inspector DELIA JACOB INGALLA for this year's METROBANK COPS 2011 awardee.  Currently Ingalla is enrolled in the course Master of Arts in Peace and Security Studies degree program of Bicol University in Camp Crame.  For the complete story please read PIA Report. - Greetings from Dr. Herbert B. BAPS Student Awarded Mr. Intramurals for 2011 CSSP Intramurals

The smoke of excitement in the CSSP intramural is gone but the regenerating effect of the entire process linger on.  As they say, "Healthy mind in a healthy body".  A well balanced and versatile personality is what we seek to develop in our students.  The department is proud of its students in the active participation they have demonstrated in these year's intramurals.  It is with pride that we congratulate all the participants.  We especially congratulate  Mr. Ian Carlo Magayanes for winning the title Mr. Intrams of the CSSP we hope that you will serve as a good example of sportsmanship and especially of peace.

WORKSHOP HELD FOR THE PILOT SCHOOL OF PEACE (SAN ISIDRO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, CASTILLA, SORSOGON)

The teachers and principal of the San Isidro Elementary School participated in a workshop dubbed: INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND PLANNING WORKSHOP FOR THE SCHOOL OF PEACE on July 29-31, 2011 at the Villa Amada Hotel in Legazpi City. The workshop was exclusively intended for the teachers and principal of the San Isidro Elementary School.  The aim of which is to improve the relationships of the teachers as key instrument in peace education and to help them plan for the year.  The activity included many activities such as workshop of interpersonal relationship building.  This segment was given by Dr. Marylendra Pinitrante of Divine World College of Legazpi.  Dr. Pinitrante is a clinical psychologist.  There was also a workshop on lesson planning facilitated by Prof. Flor A, Jenkin of Bicol University and Dr. Herbert B. Rosana the Director of BCPED.  While the planning workshop was given by Mr.  Rolly Asuncion.  The BCPED aims to document the activities and output of the School of Peace.  San Isidro Elementary School is the pilot school of peace in Bicol, the only school of peace in this part of the Philippines.
