The Department of Peace Studies has taken the occasion of September 21 as the day of peace to promote story-telling as vehicle for the promotion of peace consciousness. On the 21st the Junior Peace Advocates invited a group of pre-schoolers from Malinao, Albay and treated them to a feast of songs, games and story-telling. Dr. Herbert B. Rosana conducted the story telling sessions. The story was about the apple tree and the boy. The bottom line of the story was that there is a need for children to learn to appreciate their parensts, because they are the ones to whom they can lean on for help and support. After the sessions to further enahnce the experiences of Children, Dr. Rosana proposed that the children be brought to the Zoo not only for recreation but educational purposes as well. The Department of Peace Studies Celebrated the World Day Peace with a Symposium |
The Department of Peace Studies held the 10th Regional Peace Forum with the theme: The Human Face of Conflict: A Reflection on the CARHIL. This years theme focused on the respect for human rights and how has the CARHIL fared in the fast several years since it was signed by the Government of the Philippines and the CPP-NDF. This Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law is a historic document in that the GoP has given generous concessions to the CPP-NDF by signing this document with a non-state actor. While the CPP-NDF also recognize the need to respect human rights especially in conflicted situations and areas.

BUCSSP Department of Peace Studies Starts Peace Month Celebration with a Big Bang
The Department of Peace Studies opened the celebration of Peace Month with the celebration of Mass, program and a motorcade. The month of September through a Presidential proclamation was declared as National Peace Consciousness Month several years ago. To formally open the celebration the Department held a program and a motorcade. As Dr. Herbert Rosana puts it: "The program and motorcade will help raise awareness among the people of Legazpi about the need to work for peace." Awareness is very crucial since it is with awareness that conviction starts. Every Filipino has a part in making the peace process work. Hence on this regard the program and motorcade was held with much preparation. The students prepared banners and balloons. During the program, Professor Jerry Bigornia, the vice-president for production of Bicol University spoke in behalf of the President, Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya. Dr. Lauraya has ever since been supportive of the peace advocacy programs of the Department of Peace Studies. The dean of the college, Dr, Noemi L. Ibo also delivered her inspirational message. In the evening the students held a party to dramatize their camaraderie and promote peace consciounsess among their fellows and among their guests.
